Single Girl's Guide to Surviving Valentine's Day

February is among us which means that love is lurking around the corner. Every February 14th, we celebrate Valentine’s Dayby indulging in chocolates, heart shaped balloons, flowers and romantic dinners. Restaurants are filled with couples and everything around us inevitably reminds us that we are Solteras! If you do not have a significant other, if you have yet to findyour Principe Azul, or simply do not have a date, do not despair. After all, Valentine’s Day is El Día del Amor y la Amistad, and you can express your love in many ways. This Valentine’s Day treat the day with enthusiasm, be optimistic and plan ahead. Here are a few tips that will help you make this Valentine’s Day unforgettable:

1.
Share the Love. Find the one person that loves you unconditionally, no matter what.  Be sure to let this person know how important they are in your life. Consider being the first person to wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day with a phone call at the beginning of the day. You can also arrange to send them flowers with a sincere and lovingnote.
2.
Be Polite. Be sure to greet and smile at everyone you come across during the day. Don’t wait for Valentine’s Day tostart smiling. Do it now! You never know who Cupid has in mind for you.
3.
Volunteer. What better way to express love for life than by giving back to your community. Plan ahead and research how you can help. Contact hospitals, assisted living, or animal shelters. Valentine’s Day can be torturous for a lot of people and you can be that one person that lightens up the day for someone else.
4.
Treat Yourself. Schedule yourself a day of beauty and relaxation. Set up appointments now for hair and nails. Take advantage of the Spa Certificate you received during the Holidays. This is your time to detach and treat yourself to the best.
5.
It’s Your Lucky Day! Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, which means girls night out! Be sure to arrange to go out with all your single friends. Check out eclectic places that are having single events and surely it will be a night to remember.

Although Valentine’s Day may be tough on people who are single, we should never allow this to ruin our day. It’s normal tofeel lonely once in a while but always keep in mind that there are many people who love us.  We were created to live, to grow, to love and always move forward.  Always take notice howblessed you are and enjoy life! Happy Valentine’s Day! Mari Twins xoxoxo

7 Easy New Year's Resolutions

We find ourselves nearing the end of the year again, which immediately prompts us to reflect on our lives. We look back and realize that we let most of our resolutions fizzle away.  We are hard on ourselves for not committing to our goals that we so confidently set last New Year. Year after year we treat New Years in the same manner, as a new beginning and another chance to make things better. We want to make every year the best year of our lives. If we do in fact want to make it the best year, we must create resolutions that are easily adaptable into our lives. We should focus on small changes in our daily routines that will have beneficial outcomes in the long run. It is 2014! This is your year! Here are some easy resolutions that you can start right away:

1. Don’t text and drive. We are all aware of the dangers of texting and driving, yet we still have the urge to look at our phones. Be proactive by storing your cell phone away. Texting and driving has become a life or death situation, it can definitely wait!

2. Barriga llena, corazon contento! Give yourself additional time in the morning to have a well balanced breakfast. Consider making healthy choices such as soy or almond milk. This is the most important meal of the day, don’t skip it!

3. Make water a huge part of your day. Water helps you control calories, energizes your muscles, keeps your skin looking young, helps your kidneys, and helps maintain a normal bowel function. Make water your best friend in 2014 by keeping a bottle of water in your car, and at your desk at work.

4. Volunteer. Help make the world a better place by volunteering at your local food bank, community event, or non profit organization. Not only is it rewarding, you will meet great people and gain a new sense of appreciation for life.

5. Pick up a new hobby. Take the time to learn a new language, read a book or the  newspaper weekly, or start a journal that tracks your daily activities. Also consider doing something outside of your comfort zone, such as trying new foods every month.

6. Make more time for family. Our schedules tend to be very hectic, pick a day that the family can get together and enjoy each others company over dinner. Make certain to turn off cell phones and other electronic devices. Use this time to catch up on all the events that took place during the week.

7. Smile! Wake up every morning with a positive outlook on life. Be ready and opened to  learning new things. Identify your stressors and take action. Don’t allow obstacles to overwhelm you. Remember to always keep your smile on, it evokes happiness and is 100% contagious.

This New Year, make resolutions which are easily applicable to your life. Don’t choose resolutions that are long term, and require you to have deadlines that ultimately set you up for failure. New Years is a hopeful time and we are all excited with the anticipation of a fresh start. Focus on creating new daily habits. If you find yourself not keeping your new habits, simply try again. You only get one 2014, make the most of it!
